Banc de Sabadell

Guarantee results and strengthen the strategy.

Banc de Sabadell

Banc Sabadell is the fourth biggest Spanish private banking group, and operates in Spain, Latin America and the United States. Following various processes to restructure the financial system, the institution has tripled its number of clients, and thus increased its market share. On closing the first quarter of 2014, the Group’s total assets exceeded €161bn.

Uncertain economic scenario

The uncertain economic setting required a strengthening of the business strategy to ensure continued growth.

  • Business goal

    • It was necessary to reinforce the bank’s corporate culture in the new structure arising from the merger processes promoted by the public institutions.
    • The new organization’s strategy had to take root and be disseminated to align the work of its professionals with the business objectives.
  • Challenges

The Group’s fast growth endangered the cohesion of its strategy and, therefore, the future results.

    • In 2011, the bank was made up of 9,500 employees, distributed in a network of 1,200 branches which served 1.5 million private clients. In 2014, it has 16,500 employees, 2,400 branches and over 7 million clients.
    • A considerable extra effort was required from the professionals in order to reach new levels of growth and of commitment to the institution.
    • The new knowledge management initiatives were expected to have an impact on the results of the bank in too short a time.

  • Diagnosis and value proposition

Banc Sabadell implements a ‘Job Specific Training’ programme, with its own pathway, the LAUDE Programme, which offers a university qualification.

    • The initiative allows the corporate culture to be consolidated in the new organization resulting from the takeovers, the bank’s growth strategy to be supported and commitment to the institution to be fostered.
    • The training initiatives are systematized and the acquisition of specific knowledge depending on the position is prioritized.
    • The inclusion of a university qualification in the knowledge management plan helps to motivate the professionals and allows the quality of the training actions to be validated.

  • Impact and results

Banc de Sabadell thus has a mechanism to consolidate its corporate strategy and the specific management results of its professionals.

    • 547 professionals have already graduated in its 9 editions, and 70% of the commercial network welcomes the initiative and would be willing to join the programme. At present, the 10th edition is taking place with 152 people registered.
    • On completion of the programme the professionals embark on a project, related to their own position, which has been validated by the internal tutor assigned.
    • The programme fosters a commitment to the institution: it allows the potential of the bank’s professionals to be identified and new internal growth opportunities to be offered to them.
