Founded in 1450, the University of Barcelona has always been synonymous with exhaustive academic and research work.

Since its foundation in 1450, the University of Barcelona has carried out intense academic and research work that has made it a benchmark in education, science and thought on a national and international scale.

PROGRAMMES AND COURSES

The University of Barcelona's programmes and courses, based on quality and innovation, attract more than 60,000 students each year and cover all fields of knowledge: humanities, health sciences, social sciences, experimental sciences and engineering. The 2018 edition of the Europe Teaching Rankings, published by Times Higher Education (THE), ranks the University of Barcelona 19th in Europe and as the leading public university in Spain. In the academic year 2019-2020, the UB offered 73 bachelor's degrees and 157 master's degrees, as well as 48 doctoral programmes and more than 900 postgraduate courses.

RESEARCH ACTIVITY

In the field of research, it is the only Spanish university member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) and has consolidated its position as the most innovative university in Spain according to Reuters Top 100: The World's Most Innovative Universities, where it is ranked 75th in the world. This is in no small part due to the staff involved in research, with more than 5,700 indexed scientific publications, the 276 consolidated research groups and the research structures, including 15 research institutes, 5 research centres and 9 observatories.

EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC IMPACT

With a graduate employment rate of 87.26% (88.44% for master's graduates and 90.67% for doctoral graduates), the UB stands out in terms of employability, an area in which it is ranked among the top 90 universities in the world according to the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2019. 
As for the impact generated by the University of Barcelona, according to the BiGGAR Economics report on the economic contribution of LERU universities, it is estimated to contribute 2.3 billion euros in gross value added to the Spanish economy and 39,300 jobs (2016 data).

UB IN THE RANKINGS

The University of Barcelona is currently among the top 200 universities in the world according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). In the QS World University Rankings 2020, it is also Spain's top university. For its part, Times Higher Education considered the UB to be one of the 25 best universities in the world with more than 400 years of history.
